    • Abstract:
      INTERVENTION: Intervention1: Lifestyle intervention on Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) focused on carbohydrate counting education: People with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus who satisfy the study criteria for participation and are willing to participate as per study protocol will be eligible for participation in this study. For participants in intervention group, 5 powerpoint sessions over a period of 2.5 months will be conducted on usual nutrition counselling and diabetes management with carbohydrate counting education. Each session for around 60 minutes will be taught by a trained educator once fortnightly in the hospital premises. The sessions will be conducted in Hindi and will be based on knowledge, demonstrations, activities and practical examples from daily schedule. Control Intervention1: Lifestyle intervention on usual care of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)without carbohydrate counting education: In the control group, 3 sessions will be conducted on usual nutrition counselling and diabetes management. Each session for around 60 minutes will be taught by a trained educator once fortnightly in the hospital premises.CONDITION: Endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseasesPRIMARY OUTCOME: Reduction of 0.5% of the baseline HbA1cTimepoint: Evaluated at 3 months and 6 monthsSECONDARY OUTCOME: Hypoglycemic episodes, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, lipid parameters, body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, diet score, Knowledge, Attitude and Practices, diabetes self-management and physical activityTimepoint: Evaluated at 3 months and 6 monthsINCLUSION CRITERIA: 1. Type 1 diabetes 2. HbA1c â?¥ 7.5 percent 3. Duration of diabetes > 1 year
