    • Abstract:
The study is a quantitative, correlational study that compared the relationships between maladaptive schemas and diagnostic subcategories of eating disorders. The Eating Disorder Diagnostic Scale II was used to determine a consistent eating disorder diagnosis (Stice, Telch, & Rizvi, 2000). Results revealed three groups for comparison: bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and a 'no diagnosis' group who did not meet criteria for a diagnosis on the EDDS II. Four assessments were used to measure maladaptive schemas related to eating disorder characteristics: the Young Schema Questionnaire S3 (Young, 2005), the Eating Disorder Core Belief Questionnaire (Fairchild & Cooper, 2010), the Thoughts Questionnaire, and the Behavior Questionnaire (Cooper, Todd, Woolrich, Somerville, & Wells, 2006). Results indicated significant correlations between 20 maladaptive schemas and scores on the EDDS II, significant predictability between 20 maladaptive schemas and scores on the EDDS II, significant relationships between 9 maladaptive schemas and scores from the bulimia nervosa group, significant relationships between 7 maladaptive schemas and scores from the binge eating disorder group, and significant differences for two maladaptive schemas between scores from the bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder groups.
