    • Abstract:
      The purpose of this capstone project was to examine the effectiveness of partial body-weight-supported treadmill training (PBWSTT) versus resistance training for improving gait speed in children with cerebral palsy. A literature review was conducted, which concluded that PBWSTT is a reasonable and clinically effective method for improving gait speed in children with cerebral palsy. However, resistance training did not yield significant or long-lasting results. A case study was conducted in which the patient demonstrated improvement in self-selected walking speed after participating in a partial body-weight-supported treadmill training program. Further research is needed to determine a standardized protocol for PBWSTT and to further assess the effectiveness of PBWSTT on gait speed in children with cerebral palsy in a more experimental manner that can be more widely generalized to this population.
